Duran Duran skipped Dublin this time, and the North’s Rachael O’Connor stole their Belfast show

The only Irish stop

If you were waiting for Duran Duran to announce Dublin, they didn’t. Their autumn tour list on duranduran.com has Belfast on 18 October as its only Irish date, and the last time they played Dublin was the 3Arena in May 2023.

Le Bon’s shout-out

Plenty of southern fans made the trip up, and they saw an Irish moment. As Christopher Leebody reports in the Belfast Telegraph, Rachael O’Connor, the band’s backing vocalist from Drumsurn in Co Derry, got the biggest cheer of the night when Simon Le Bon introduced her.

“She’s a Derry girl. Well, actually, she comes from Drumsurn. What a place. And tonight is her night,” he told the crowd, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The Irish dancing link

Her route to the band will sound familiar to a lot of Irish families. After The Voice, where Kylie Minogue picked her at 16, she spent years touring with an Irish dancing show. A producer from that show put her forward to Duran Duran.

“I always laugh a lot with Duran Duran. It’s like going on a big family holiday with some shows added in,” she told Sunday Life.
