Ireland’s Katie Taylor retained her IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO world lightweight titles with a comprehensive points win against Karen Elizabeth Carabajal.

Carbajal had a perfect 19-fight winning record, but came up against the best fighter in the world. Taylor dominated the fight at distance, with a lot of speed and excellent waist movement.

All three judges saw the champion win on cards of 100-91, 98-91 and 98-92.

“She was a tough fighter. I boxed very smart she was a very awkward opponent. I’m delighted with the win. It has been a brilliant six years,” said Taylor afterwards, and called out Amanda Serrano to meet her in Croke Park next year.

“We want to fight in Croke Park in front of 80k people. That would be the biggest event in women’s boxing history.

“I can’t wait for Croke Park next year.”
