Joanne McNally takes New York, then comes home for four nights at the 3Arena

Dublin humour, NBC audience

Nobody who has queued for a Joanne McNally gig in this city will be surprised, but it’s still a lovely thing to see. On her first ever US late-night slot, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the audience rose to its feet.

RTÉ reports the 43-year-old, born in Roscommon and raised in Dublin, had the room in stitches with material about dating and life as a single woman over 40. Fallon was clearly a fan.

“Come on! What are you talking about? That’s awesome! That’s how you do it!” he said, then: “Look at that – standing O!”

Four nights at the Point

Back home, the numbers are just as daft. Her promoter MCD says she’s the only Irish comedian to headline four nights at the 3Arena. She was the first to sell it out once, then twice, then three times. Fri 4, Sat 5 and Sat 12 December are gone. Friday 11 December, billed as the “fourth and final” date, still has tickets.

Then Netflix

In between, she records Pinotphile at Town Hall in New York on 7 November for Netflix. MCD bills it as the first standalone Netflix comedy special by an Irish comedian, landing worldwide in 2027. Up north, our sister site LoveBelfast has the Traitors angle: read it on LoveBelfast.
