Lidl’s €8m Pottery Road Store Reopens in Dún Laoghaire This Thursday

Dublin’s grocery map is getting a fresh southside update this week. Lidl Ireland will reopen its redeveloped Pottery Road store in Dún Laoghaire at 8am on Thursday 10 September, after an €8 million extension and refurbishment of the existing site.

The project is about more than a lick of paint. Lidl says the rebuild delivers a larger, modernised sales floor of about 1,600 square metres, self-checkouts, a daily in-store bakery, and customer restrooms — plus 24 new permanent jobs for the local area on top of construction work during the build.

Built for shoppers — and for the meter

Sustainability is part of the sell. The store carries an A energy rating, rooftop solar PV panels, and EV charging points in the car park. Regional managing director Niall Murray said the extension let Lidl deliver “a world-class retail space designed with customer experience and environmental sustainability at its core,” and that the company looks forward to welcoming the community on 10 September.

Opening day in Dún Laoghaire

Dublin ladies Gaelic football captain Carla Rowe is due to cut the ribbon. “I am absolutely delighted to cut the ribbon on the redeveloped Lidl store on Pottery Road which brings a whole new shopping experience to the people of Dun Laoghaire,” she said, nodding to Lidl’s long support for LGFA.

Lidl is also dangling opening-day deals, with the first ten shoppers through the doors set for complementary €20 gift vouchers. Hours after opening: Monday–Saturday 8am–10pm, Sunday 9am–9pm.

Why it matters for Dublin

Retail reinvestment on Pottery Road is everyday business news for south Dublin — permanent jobs, a bigger neighbourhood store, and another signal that the capital’s supermarket chains are still spending on bricks and mortar. Lidl Ireland employs more than 6,300 people across 192 stores, with head office in Tallaght, and says it procured €826 million of goods and services from 630 Dublin suppliers and partners in 2025.

For Love Dublin readers planning the week: Thursday morning, Pottery Road, Dún Laoghaire — doors at 8am.
