Five decades of Simple Minds

For Dublin fans, this one has all the ingredients of a big arena night.

Fronted by Jim Kerr alongside longtime musical collaborator Charlie Burchill, Simple Minds have sold more than 60 million records worldwide and produced a catalogue packed with songs that have become part of the soundtrack of several generations.

Expect the V Tour to reach right across that catalogue, with classics including ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, ‘Alive and Kicking’, ‘Waterfront’, ‘Promised You A Miracle’, ‘Sanctify Yourself’ and ‘Belfast Child’ among the songs synonymous with the band.

Their enduring appeal was underlined when ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ passed the billion-stream mark on Spotify. (Ticketmaster UK)

And this isn’t simply a nostalgia tour.

A new Simple Minds album is coming too

The tour announcement arrives alongside news of a brand-new Simple Minds studio album, Sacrosanct, which is due for release on 29 January 2027 through BMG.

Its first single, ‘Beginner Boys’, offers the first taste of the record.

The eight-track album was partly shaped by the band’s experiences touring North America, where the reaction to their early art-rock and new-wave material encouraged Kerr and Burchill to reconnect with some of the energy that defined Simple Minds in their formative years.

Speaking about continuing to make new music and tour after almost five decades, Kerr said:

“Making records and performing live is as much part of our lives now as when we started out.”

He added that the band remain grateful to those continuing to support their new music and are looking forward to the upcoming world tour. (SIMPLEMINDS.COM)

Gary Numan joins them in Dublin

Making the Dublin date even more interesting is the addition of Gary Numan as special guest.

One of the defining figures in electronic and new-wave music, Numan’s influence stretches far beyond the late 1970s and 80s, making the pairing with Simple Minds a particularly strong double bill.

Numan will join Simple Minds throughout the UK and Ireland run, including the 3Arena finale on 17 May. European dates on the tour will feature Level 42 as special guests instead. (SIMPLEMINDS.COM)

The UK and Ireland leg begins at London’s O2 Arena on 6 May before visiting Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow.

It all finishes in Dublin’s 3Arena on 17 May 2027. (SIMPLEMINDS.COM)

With five decades of music, a new album arriving just months beforehand and Gary Numan on the bill, this looks set to be another major addition to Dublin’s already packed 2027 concert calendar.
